Dynamic models are important tools for engineering in all areas of modern technology. In thechemical industry, one wants to know what is going on in a reactor or a distillation columnand to simulate whole plants for design support and stationary and dynamic optimization.Also many other industries including the automobile industry (e.g. ESP (Electronic StabilityProgram)) or the computer hardware producing industry (e.g. robot control) frequently utilizemodel based support. Further on, there are also many non-industrial applications (e.g.the weather forecast) that heavily depend on models. The ever increasing computationalpower enables more and more models to be simulated in a reasonable period of time andthis will thus make them even more important than they are already nowadays.The scope of this lecture is to introduce the students to different types of models, theirsetup or identification and their solution or simulation. Further on, model reduction andthe quantification of model quality are discussed. Due to the diversity of the modeling andsimulation area, the lecture can only cover a few important aspects. The idea of the lectureis to provide an overview over different model types and model-building approaches and togive some ideas about their solution. |
