Rezession zu My Beautiful Laundrette By Hanif Kureishi Multi-ethics has been a highly-discussed subject in the past, and still is up to now. Whether there are Russians and Turkeys in Germany, coloured and Hispanic people in the USA, Indians and Pakistani in Great Britain – every country seems to have its typical minorities. Furthermore, every culture of emigrants has its children – whether they might be the first, second or third generation in the “new” country. You might think that people who have grown up in a country from their early childhood should have integrated well into the foreign culture and learned it as their own as well as they should be accepted by the majority of people by now. However it doesn’t seem to work like that, as it is shown for example by a great variety of multi-ethnic literature. Hanif Kureishi is an author who handles the subject of integration and of young people who attempt to disregard racial borders between themselves and their environment. One of his books dealing with this constantly up-to-date topic is “My Beautiful Laundrette”, which he wrote as a script for a film in 1985. ... 5 pages |
